How do we define successful systems and software engineering projects? Is it Requirements Engineering and Management? Adaptive Architectures? Quality Assurance? Project Management? High Maturity Processes? Measurement? Safe and Secure Systems? Testing and Evaluation? It is all of these, and more.

Before we can have successful systems and software engineering projects, we need to know what they look like and we need to know how to define them. Once we know that, we can move towards them with greater confidence. Our industry needs to get it right today, not sometime in the future. If software intensive systems are such a big part of life in today’s technologically enabled world, as a matter of urgency we must ensure that the techniques and methods we use will create success. Let us dispense with the ‘hit or miss’ approaches of the past. We can no longer afford these, if we ever could.

Help our industry better understand the nature of best practice. Each year ISSEC contributes to an expanding body of knowledge that helps the industry improve its capabilities. ISSEC 2012 is seeking high quality contributions from the disciplines of systems engineering, software engineering, and process improvement that contribute to successful systems and software engineering projects today
